Planes, Trains, and Automobiles!

Well, there weren't actually any planes involved, but we did have to take four trains, two cabs, and a ferry boat to get from England to Galway.

The boat was named the Ulysses, so there everything was related to James Joyce (a good Irish chap like me'self!)

We were traveling in style- they even had a movie theatre on the boat where we could watch Star Trek.

Evening in Bristol

Spent the night in Bristol in order to catch an early morning train. Enjoyed strolling along the water and visiting with the swans.

Visited the Great Hall in Winchester where "King Arthur's Round Table" is rumored to be displayed...

Here is a model of the Round Table...
Here I am with the Table- apparently it's most likely a replica made by Henry VIII, not the real thing ... what aload of blarney!
Signed the guest book and purchased an appropriately round postcard.

More Jane Austen Sightseeing

Took a train journey to the quaint town of Winchester to see the Cathedral where Jane Austen is buried. They also have a special stained glass window in her honor.

Interesting to note how her tombstone never even mentions that she was a novelist!

Bath Buns at Sally Lunn's!

My travel companions and I stopped in at Sally Lunn's - the oldest house in Bath - to enjoy some of the famous Bath Buns...

Sally Lunn's Bun with jam and clotted cream...

Strolling through the Streets of Bath

Took a walk through the streets of Bath to see all the beautiful sights- stopped for a bit on the lawn in front of the Royal Crescent.

Got a handy map to guide us through Jane Austen's Bath.
Found the home where she lived for several years.

Dropped by the Jane Austen Centre...

They had a portrait of that Mr. Darcy chap in the loo...
Period costumes on display

Exploring the Roman Baths

Sampling the legendary "healing waters" in the Pump Room.

Tossing a penny into one of the springs for good luck.

The famous Roman Baths...

Some of the old ruins on display

A model of the Baths- just the right size for a wee little man like me'self.

One last shot of the Baths

Double Dose of Theater!

Saw a matinee of Les Miserables, followed by an evening performance of The Cherry Orchard- directed by Sam Mendes and starring that charming chap Ethan Hawke. The lasses seemed quite excited to see him, much like that Jude Law fellow a few days ago...

The Sherlock Holmes Museum on Baker St!

Friendly chap outside who let me in to see Mr. Holmes.

Mr. Holmes was kind enough to let me use his loo

Here I am with the legendary Sherlock Holmes himself.
Had to sign the guest book, of course!

In the museum

Baker Street tube stop.

Arriving at Baker St.

Lights! Camera! Action!

Stopped by the London Movieum Movie Museum...

They had a special Beatles exhibit- perhaps I can be the 5th Beatle?
Ahoy there, matey!
